Course Information

The Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA) trade is a one-year programme (NSQF Level 3.5) under the CTS. At DBTI, this course develops IT skills, workplace readiness, and 21st-Century Skills through the Don Bosco Plus Skill Portfolio, ensuring every trainee is prepared for a Better Skill, Better Job, Better Life.

Job Role

A COPA professional is trained to operate computers and manage office productivity software, perform data entry, digital documentation, assist in programming, database operations, and provide IT support. Trainees are equipped to work in business, education, government offices, or as freelancers/entrepreneurs in IT-enabled services.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this course, DBTI COPA trainees will be able to:

  • Operate computers, install OS/software, and manage basic troubleshooting.
  • Work with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Use internet and email for professional communication.
  • Create and manage databases for office/business needs.
  • Apply fundamentals of programming (C, Python, HTML basics).
  • Demonstrate Employability Skills – communication, teamwork, workplace readiness.
  • Present a Skill Portfolio highlighting 21st-Century and technical skills.

Assessment Criteria

Internal (Formative):

Practical tasks, projects, attendance, and employability evaluation.

Final (Summative):

All India Trade Test (AITT) by DGT leading to award of NTC, Unit test, and quarterly assessments.

Pass Marks:

  • 60% in Practical & Internal Assessment
  • 33% in Theory & Employability Skills

Assessment & Certification

Terminal Examinations

Terminal Examinations are held in October, December, April and June.

Statement of Marks

Statement of Marks is issued at the end of every semester to the students giving details of marks obtained in the periodical assignments and term end examinations.

Certificate of Completion

A Certificate of Completion in one or more successfully completed courses/subjects is awarded to the trainee who has 85% attendance and has secured minimum of 40% marks in Theory and 60% of marks in Practical.

Evaluation / Grading System

The evaluation system is based on two components:

  • Daily performance evaluation and periodic assignments. Practical in the labs and unit test carry a weightage of 50%.
  • Term end examinations both Practical and Theory with a weightage of 50%.
  • 40% minimum marks for a pass for Theory and 60% for Practical tests in each paper.

Periodical Reports are sent to the parents/guardians in order to inform them of the progress of the trainee. These reports must be signed by the parent/guardian and returned to the Institute authorities. PTM is held after the first and third Assessments.

Assessment & Certification – COPA

  • Trainees are registered under the COPA trade and appear for the All-India Trade Test (AITT) conducted by NCVET, earning the National Trade Certificate (NTC).
  • Each trainee also receives a DBTI Certificate as COPA along with a Trainee Skill Portfolio documenting both technical and employability skills gained during training.

Certificate Fees

The Certificates are given free of charge, if taken within a month of withdrawal/completion of training or declaration of Board results. Otherwise Rs. 300 per year will be charged.
